Welcome

Boulder County to provide election service centers

Beginning Tuesday, July 27th, Boulder County voters can get replacement primary-election mail ballots or cast their votes in person on electronic voting machines at two service centers.

Voters also can drop off their completed paper ballots at each of those service centers, if they'd prefer doing that rather than attaching the 44 cents in postage needed for mailing the ballots back to the Boulder County Clerk and Recorder's Office. The two service centers, which will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays through Aug. 6, are at the Boulder County clerk's Longmont office at 529 Coffman St. and the clerk's Boulder headquarters at 1750 33rd St.

Other offices will open on August 2nd. For futher information read the Longmont Times-Call article that appeared July 26.

Scott StarinThat rumbling under your feet you feel is the groundswell of activism and grass roots taking hold. At this year's State Assembly, there was a full delegation for the first time in years. Nobody can remember when a mid-term election year had a full delegation. Additionally, about forty percent of the people in attendance were attending their first State Assembly. To say that the crowd was electric is an understatement.

At the federal level, there is particular interest and enthusiasm in winning back several congressional seats. Stephen Bailey and Bob Brancato will be facing off in a primary to unseat Jared Polis in the second CD. More locally, we are also experiencing a lot of interest in the process and in electing fiscally conservative candidates. We have strong candidates running for county and State House level positions.

Over the summer, we will be conducting voter registration drives, attending fairs and parades, holding candidate forum events as well as our summer picnic social. We will be seeking volunteers to help staff these events. Since we have incorporated our volunteer form on our website, we have received over five dozen responses from people wanting to get involved in the process. I urge you to fill out a volunteer form and get connected. This action will help us focus our communication and organize more effectively. We will be introducing the candidates to the volunteers at our Longmont headquarters, at 619 Ken Pratt Blvd, Longmont, at a "meet the candidate" event. Stay tuned for more details.

We also are concentrating on a fund raising effort to help local candidates. What is it worth to you to have fiscal responsibility and reason returned to our local and state representation? We are asking people to donate online to help elect these candidates. The way I figure it, it is a small investment that will help lower future taxes and debt burden. We are asking people to donate on a monthly basis whatever they can contribute.

With renewed enthusiasm and an extreme concern with the current track we are on, this year will be our opportunity to make a difference at government at all levels. This can only be accomplished, however, with hard work and dedication. I call upon all concerned citizens to become involved and make a difference.

Respectfully,

Scott Starin, Chairman
